Cravin’ Cajun: For Heat Seekers Who Crave Flavour

Turn up the heat and spice up your cooking with Cravin’ Cajun spice blend—Spicecraft’s boldest blend yet. It’s not insane, burn-your-face-off hot, but it’s hot enough to let you know it’s there. Packed with Southern soul, smoky herbs, and a solid peppery bite, this fiery Cajun rub is perfect for anyone who loves their food with a little attitude.

Whether you're blackening fish, firing up the BBQ, or just want to jazz up your roast veg, Cravin’ Cajun brings the bayou straight to your kitchen.

🔥 The Ultimate Guide to Cajun Seasoning: A Taste of the Bayou

1. Introduction

Cravin’ Cajun is our tribute to the bold, soulful cuisine of Louisiana. This punchy blend delivers all the smoky, spicy, and herbaceous vibes of Cajun country, straight to your spice rack. It’s the hottest seasoning in the Spicecraft range, but don’t worry—it’s more of a happy sweat than a tongue torch.

Perfect for blackened meats, smoky seafood, roasted veg, or jazzing up popcorn, this versatile rub will be your new go-to whenever you’re craving big flavour with a Cajun kick.

2. Origin & History

Cajun seasoning was born in Louisiana kitchens, where French-speaking Acadian settlers made magic with what they had: cayenne, paprika, garlic, bay leaves, and more. With no time for fancy techniques, Cajun food became a celebration of bold, honest flavour—think blackened catfish, jambalaya, and gumbo.

Where Creole seasoning is herby and refined, Cajun goes straight for the heat. Today, that fiery spirit has made its way into everything from fries and popcorn to pizza and pasta—and now, it’s got a Kiwi twist thanks to Spicecraft.

3. Ingredients & Flavour Profile

🔥 What’s in the blend:

  • Cayenne pepper & black pepper – bring the burn

  • Smoked paprika & garlic – deep, smoky, savoury

  • Onion powder – rich umami base

  • Oregano & thyme – earthy, herbal lift

  • Sea salt – rounds it all out

  • Brown sugar – subtle sweetness to balance the fire

👅 The taste:

Cravin’ Cajun hits with layered spice—it’s not just hot, it’s deep and complex. Think smoky BBQ, bold herbs, and that peppery snap that lingers in all the right ways.

✔️ Spicier than your average Cajun blend
✔️ More flavour-forward than plain chilli powder
✔️ Balanced with a hint of sweet for beautiful caramelisation

4. Traditional & Modern Uses

🍗 Classic Cajun Creations:

  • Blackened chicken or fish – seared in a hot skillet for that smoky crust

  • Jambalaya & gumbo – essential for that spicy, soulful base

  • Crawfish boils – loaded onto shellfish, corn, and potatoes

🥑 Modern Kiwi Twists:

  • Cajun popcorn – seriously addictive

  • Spicy aioli or mayo – just mix with your favourite dip

  • Roasted veg – cauliflower, kūmara, or even brussels sprouts

  • Grilled shrimp tacos – smoky, juicy, and perfect with lime

💬 “I even sprinkle it on avo toast and eggs. My go-to for anything bland.” – Jo, Napier

5. Cooking Tips & Techniques

✅ Dry rub: Massage into meat or tofu 30+ minutes before cooking (overnight = magic)
✅ Stews & sauces: Bloom in oil or butter at the start, or stir in at the end for zing
✅ Toss & roast: Coat veg or popcorn with oil + Cajun rub
✅ BBQ ribs: Use generously for a smoky, spicy bark

💡 Hot Tip: Mix with butter and brush over grilled corn, garlic bread, or prawns for an unforgettable side dish.

I was so annoyed when they changed the mrs rodgers blend was trying to find something that was ok , this had totally surpassed all the expectations.first used this in a beef stirfry , it was amazing, also used in like a chicken hotpot sort of thing with diced pork , a can of tomatoes Italian style , 1 1/2 cups of Campbell real stock vegie , a good heaped tablespoon of Cravin' Cajun Rub into the slow cooker , add some vegies either fresh or frozen, half way through cooking , have with rice or mashed spud . Heaps of flavor, simple and super hearty winter meal , that you dnt have to babysit , just set n forget.

Honestly no bagel no bagel reminds me of the everything bagel seasoning at Dunkin Donuts in the States. And the salt rocks just make any meal delectable. I love their rubs as well. You can’t find this stuff anywhere else!!

I like all I have tried so far especially the cravin' cajun and jammin' jerk seasoning

I soak chicken breast in salted water no less than 15 mins. Pat dry. Melt butter and a little oil in shallow dish. Roll the breast in it and sprinkle cravin cajun or jammin jerk seasoning over both sides. Heat oven to 230c (not on fan bake) bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Internal temp needs to be above 62 deg at this stage. Then loosely cover with tinfoil for 10 min. Internal temp shoukd come up to 72 deg. Delicious. Soaking in salted water and leaving for 10 minutes covered in tinfoil are non negotiable.

I tried this Tony, was fantastic, Left overs are super good too!

A spicy, savory rub for any meats and/or a sprinkle seasoning for roasted vegetables.

I grew up in “Cajun Country” (Louisiana USA) before immigrating to NZ after retirement. I first sampled “Crazin’ Cajun” at a display booth at a local AgFest Show and was very favorably impressed - this seasoning has since become a permanent addition to our family’s spice rack!
