Kia Ora Vietnam: The Vietnamese-Inspired Spice Blend That Brings Zing to Everything

If you’ve ever wandered through the vibrant food stalls of Vietnam—or wished you could—you’ll love Kia Ora Vietnam, Spicecraft’s bold take on Southeast Asian seasoning. This rice-friendly blend hits the sweet spot, balancing nuoc cham-style zest with gentle heat & fragrant aromatics. With fresh ground star anise, zesty lime, & mild chilli flakes, it brings the warm street food buzz of Saigon right to your table. Whether you're chasing a perfect rice seasoning, a quick Vietnamese dip, or a way to spice up chicken, Kia Ora Vietnam is your golden ticket.

A Taste of Vietnam: Culture, Colour & Culinary Tradition

Vietnamese cuisine is all about balance—salty, sweet, sour, spicy & umami. Think nuoc cham sauce, grilled meats, noodle bowls & fresh herbs. Kia Ora Vietnam nods to these complex flavours while giving Kiwi cooks a shortcut to them.

From lemongrass pork to steaming pho, Vietnamese cooking is big on fresh, bold flavours. Kia Ora Vietnam captures that magic—just shake, rub or sprinkle.

The Blend Breakdown: Ingredients & Flavour Profile

  • Star anise – Rich aromatic backbone
  • Lime leaf, sumac & citric acid – Bright, zesty high notes
  • Chilli flakes & smoked paprika – Touch of heat (2/5 on the spice scale)
  • Brown sugar, coconut flour & sea salt – Balance, body & texture

It’s sweet, slightly spicy, fragrant & complex—more aromatic than Cajun, sweeter than Thai rubs, & full of citrusy charm.

Traditional & Modern Uses for Kia Ora Vietnam

  • Spice ‘n’ rice: Sprinkle over cooked jasmine or sticky rice
  • Roast chicken & veges: Rub generously pre-roast
  • Smoked pork ribs or belly: Game-changer in the smoker
  • Pork mince burgers or meatballs: Sweet heat & aromatic lift
  • In stir-fries or soups: A teaspoon in pho broth = magic
  • On vanilla ice cream: Sounds wild—but works!

It’s a classic case of rice & spice harmony, where East meets Kiwi kitchen.

Tips & Tricks for Cooking With Kia Ora Vietnam

  • As a rub: Pork, chicken or tofu—marinate with oil & soy
  • Sprinkle: On noodles, fried rice, even eggs
  • Enhance sauces: Stir into mayo, vinaigrettes or satay
  • Timing: Apply pre-cook for depth or post-cook for punch
  • Pair it with: Lime juice, coriander, fish sauce & honey

It caramelises beautifully on the grill & transforms dressings & noodle salads.
